Supporting Armed Forces Veterans: Military Mentorship Scheme

The transition from military service to civilian life marks a significant milestone for thousands of service personnel each year. While these individuals possess exceptional leadership skills, strategic thinking abilities, and a strong work ethic, navigating the commercial sector can present unique challenges.

Military Veteran Career Transition

At Risk Evolves, we’ve developed a pioneering mentorship programme that bridges this gap, offering service leavers valuable insights into civilian careers while helping businesses tap into this remarkable talent pool. Our commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community has not only transformed careers but has also earned recognition for its innovative approach to veteran employment suppor

Sam Woolley, Company Sergeant Major – Operations Manager, Intelligence Lead and Senior Advisor in the British Army, recently took part in Risk Evolves’ Military Mentorship Scheme and he’s clearly delighted with its benefits.

“I was genuinely impressed by the expertise and professionalism of everyone I had the pleasure of working with. The depth of subject matter knowledge within your team is truly remarkable, and I’m so grateful for how openly everyone shared their insights with me.”

He’s not the only one who admires the company’s efforts; Risk Evolves received the Gold Award in the 2024 Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme.

Professional Development Opportunities

The quarterly mentorship scheme offers service leavers the opportunity to shadow staff members and gain invaluable experience in the commercial world, helping them prepare for civilian careers.

The team at Risk Evolves came up with the idea after recognising how hard it can be to rejoin the workforce after leaving the services and wanted to help others prepare for what’s to come after leaving the forces.

Building Bridges: Military to Civilian Career Paths

Helen Barge, Managing Director at Risk Evolves, encourages other companies to make use of the scheme. She said:

“The military has people who would benefit from the experience we and others can provide. In turn, those service people would be an asset to many organisations. This type of opportunity is not just for larger businesses, all SMEs have much to offer.”

Sam Woolley supports that notion. He added:

The experience confirmed my desire to work in a smaller, more close-knit team. The family-like environment you’ve cultivated at Risk Evolves is truly praiseworthy. It felt like a supportive, encouraging place to work, and that made a lasting impact on me.”

In addition to its Military Mentorship Scheme, Risk Evolves signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2022, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community.
