Risk Evolves' Helen Barge will be a panellist at the Global Cyber Summit in London.
Small businesses are a critical component of the supply chain, but with an estimated 3.69 million of them having experienced cybercrime in the past two years, their vulnerability highlights the importance of building resilient supply chains.
Research by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), shows that more than nine in 10 of small businesses have been targeted through phishing emails, with other attacks including malware, social media hackings and ransomware. However, small businesses have fewer resources than larger organisations to implement cybersecurity measures and can lack in-house expertise.
Making all businesses resilient and secure, regardless of their size, will be a focus of the 2024 Global Cyber Summit, which takes place in Olympia London on 24 and 25 September. Helen Barge, Risk Evolves Managing Director, will represent the FSB on an expert panel at the conference to discuss supply chain threats from cyber disruption. She said:
While it’s easy to think of cybersecurity as an IT issue, it’s much more than that. All organisations, regardless of industry or size, must understand and manage digital risks on a personal level. Every member of staff must be cyber aware and think carefully to avoid scams and breaches in data privacy. As we see from the FSB research, cyber threats come in many forms, from ransomware to phishing attacks, and business defences can sometimes be breached before anyone even realises. This is why we all need to play a part in improving and building resilient supply chains through enhanced cyber awareness.“
The panel session, Small business, vulnerability and importance to supply chain, will take place on Wednesday 25 September at 11.30am, and will focus on why small businesses are essential to building resilient supply chains and what is available to help them, the limits of the state to make small businesses more resilient, self-help and identifying the ideal partner to give small businesses support.
