The Digital Landscape and the Need for Cyber Security
In today’s digitally tethered world, the words cyber and security are never too far apart. More frequently than not, headlines are filled with data breaches and hacking efforts. Individuals, organisations and governments alike are justifiably concerned and in response, many, are trying to address these concerns by bolstering their cybersecurity posture with additional knowledge, tools and resources.
Recognising this, the UK government’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), developed a new innovative online platform called MyNCSC.
Introducing the MyNCSC Cyber Security Toolbox
MyNCSC was designed as a common point of entry that improves the way an organisation approaches cyber security. It brings together a number of the original Active Cyber Defence (ACD) services into a single, more coherent experience that replaces the ACD Hub.
ACD services that are now integrated with MyNCSC include:
- Mail Check – can help protect email services with appropriate security protocols.
- Web Check – helps to identify website security flaws and advise on how to fix them.
- Early Warning – a free to all service designed to warn of potential cyber-attacks on a network, as soon as possible.
Who Can Benefit from MyNCSC?
The MyNCSC Cyber Security Toolbox and the ACD services that are found within it are predominantly designed for use by public sector organisations, however, organisations that work within the private sector can access the platform and make use of some of its functionality to their advantage.
There are some eligibility requirements for each of the integrated services but as a private sector organisation there are benefits to using this as part of your cyber security toolbox.
Registering and Accessing MyNCSC
To get started NCSC has a MyNCSC help centre with appropriate guidance. Registering to be able to use this platform is fairly simple. Once registered as an organisation, the different services can be accessed (depending on the sector in which the organisation operates).
To receive findings, an organisation must have subscribed its asset(s) to one of or all of the service(s). These assets can include IPs, domains and email addresses. Findings from each of the services are the results of the scans that MyNCSC performs against an organisation’s assets.
Using MyNCSC for Vulnerability Assessment
